Data Integration Issues and Answers
(461B, Wed, Oct 16, 3:30-4:45PM, Room 110C)
Business intelligence can be defined as turning "data" into "information" upon which to base business decisions. As organizations implement business intelligence systems, they come face to face with the challenge of integrating data from multiple operational systems. Typically the cleansed and integrated data is made accessible to business users through a data warehouse repository.. Getting data into that repository is accomplished via Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) processes. This session discusses the available options in integrating these disparate data sources, and looks at the impact this has on the architecture of a business intelligence implementation.

Introduction to Meta-data
(41CJ, Wed, Oct 16, 08:00-09:15 am, Room 210C)
Meta-data is one of the key facets of a successful Business Intelligence Infrastructure. You've almost certainly heard the term many times and may know it literally means 'data about data' , but what does that really mean, what should it look like, how should it be implemented and how is it shared across multiple tools? This session discusses the important aspects of any successful meta-data repository and looks at the meta-data provided by a leading iSeries data warehousing tool.
